Royal Phoenix Shiraz Anniversary 2019

Overview: 100% fruit from the oldest vines in the vineyard. These are the cuttings taken from the neighbouring vineyard, which were vines that were brought in from Rhône Valley almost 150 years ago. These vines have retained some of the original character of their homeland in the Rhône but have had plenty of time to integrate the local Goulburn Valley terroir, and more presently the Ulupna terroir.
With the Anniversary edition we have dared to experiment in oak maturation as is it slightly diverse to the original Royal Phoenix, to further enhance the formal elegance of the wine.

Gape Variety and Vineyard: 100% Shiraz from Ulupna’s own vineyard in the Goulburn Valley Central Victoria. 

Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 15%, TA: 5.4 g/L, pH: 3.70

Eye: Intense ruby red with light crimson hues. 

Nose: Spice, freshly crushed black and red pepper alongside Sichuan pepper accents intermingle perfectly on the backdrop of a lush and sensuous cacao and vanilla aroma with rose petal notes. A light aroma of blackberry makes its way into the mix, perfectly complementing hints of cigar box which give this wine its distinctive and established personality. 

Palate: Distinctive floral notes with accents of bot red and Sichuan pepper give way to both lack and red berries, with a long dark chocolate finish.  Light oak flavours challenge the fruit, exalting its strength but bringing balance to the wine delivering a sensual experience. Food Matches: Succulent braised venison or a Fiorentina steak sizzled on glowing embers.
